On the 28th of October 2000 the Alex made the long journey to the Priestfield Stadium to take on Gillingham in the old First Division.
Prior to the game, no less then ten first team regulars were injured and we lined up with Kearton, Maybury, Macauley, Sodje, Smith, Wright, Lunt, Sorvel, Street, Little and Tait.
In front of 8,347 fans, we recorded a 1-0 victory with a 52nd minute Colin Little goal.
In such circumstances young players can sometimes get their chnace aind in the 83rd minute we introduced our number 36 with his name not even appearing on the match day programme!
At the tender age of 16 years and 339 days old, his name – Dean Ashton!
